Davidoff Nicaragua Short Corona

I’m joined this week by longtime friend of the show and former Dogwatch Cigar Radio cohost Dale Roush.  A huge thanks to Dale for sitting in with me and catching up.  We’re smoking the Davidoff Nicaragua Short Corona, a 3.75″ x 46 beauty featuring a 10 year old Habano seed Rosado wrapper, and Nicaraguan binder/fillers.  This line debuted in summer of 2013, and retails for about $9.90 depending on local tax situation.  Tune in to get our thoughts on the cigar, as well as a chance to see what Dale has been up to and a bit of cigar news!

News

In a topic we talked briefly about last week as an outlying possibility for a developing trend, Camacho has announced their contribution to the world of barrel-aged cigars.  The Camacho American Barrel Aged will feature bourbon barrel-aged corojo as a core component.  It will also come with a 5-year old American broadleaf wrapper.  In fact, it almost exclusively utilizes American grown tobacco, including the broadleaf wrapper, binder and filler – including a maduro filler tobacco from Pennsylvania.  A single leaf of six year old bourbon barrel aged Corojo was added to the recipe.  They are promoting a national event tour to launch the line, beginning in Orlando June 8th and ending up at Tampa Humidor December 19th.  It will be shipping June 15th and retail for $10-12 per cigar.  I posted a story about it on the website with full tour schedule.

United Cigar, who we’ve spoken of several times in the past 2 months, is partnering with Selected Tobacco to extend the Byron line by two vitolas.  Both cigars are the largest Byron vitolas to date, and as a result each blend is tweaked a bit with a higher priming to maintain the strength and flavor required to match the larger ring gauge format.  The packaging has also been revamped and will include individual humitubes with the cigars.  MSRP has been set at a whopping $33 a stick.  Here are the details on the cigars.  See full story posted earlier.

The Serie Siglo XIX, was blended by Nelson Alfonso with a goal of best representing Cuban Cigars of the 19th Century is now available in a 6 x 56, known as the Grand Poemas.

The Serie Siglo XX – also blended by Nelson Alfonso – aims at representing Cuban Cigars of the 20th Century, and is also available in a 6 x 56 format known as Habanero.

A few weeks ago we reported on an upcoming event-only offering from Crowned Heads…just as an update, the name has changed from “Snake Oil” to “Blood Medicine.”  Turns out, Kendall Culbertson of Outlaw Cigar Co. owns the trademark for Snake Oil.  So, to maintain the peace, the Crowned Heads folks opted to just change the name.  Other details remain the same: it’s a 5.5” x 48 “super corona”; Ecuador Habano wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler.  It will not be available for stand-alone purchase, and will come through event special purchases.

The still-recovering Skip Martin is closing in on shipping the much-anticipated release of RoMa Craft’s Neanderthal this upcoming week.  The line carries a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Connecticut broadleaf binder and fillers that include tobacco from Condega, Estelí, Jalapa and Pueblo Nuevo from Nicaragua; Dominican olor ligero and Pennsylvania “Green River Sucker One” double ligero. The line will be distributed initially in a single 5” x 52/58 vitola, but will also include extensions soon.  A shop exclusive/event 4.25” x 52 vitola will also be available soon for Riverside Cigar Shop in Indiana and Serious Cigars in TX.  These two sizes will retail for $12 and $9 respectively.

While cruising the social media nether regions today, I noticed an article halfwheel posted up that they’d found in the Cañon City Daily Record from Dale’s home state of Colorado.  It appears some folks in Cañon City CO are shooting for a ban on outdoor smoking in the Central Business District of the city.  The claim is that smokers spilling out of buildings (due to an indoor ban) are giving the area an inconvenient image.  Councilman James Characky, Jr. said. “I want to create an image of healthy, vibrant people, not an image of cigarette smoking, beer drinkers.”  The mayor has proposed limiting the ban to Main Street alone, rather than the entire district.

Unbanded #022, from SmokinSteve

This week, we’re smoking another Unbanded submission, this time from listener SmokinSteve.  Steve was kind enough to send these in for us.  Without giving away any spoilers (and this week was a doozy, wrecking our somewhat reliable record with unbanded cigars), Unbanded #022 was 6.75″ x 54, and featured a dark brown, toothy wrapper.  Tune in to find out how poorly we did with this one.  Also, we have special guest Colin Ganley on to chat some more about his Twin Engine Coffee and Cigar Tourism trips – specifically, about more scheduled trips to Cuba.  I know many of you are interested in that.  Tune in to get the full scoop on when the next trip will occur….

News

You may remember us reporting on a new Drew Estate production for Pappy van Winkle last November….well, it has finally begun to ship….but with modification.  When we originally reported on this cigar, it was to feature an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper and Nicaraguan fillers.  NOW we know that the final iteration comes with “a barrel fermented “tapa negra” style wrapper over a Mexican San Andres base wrapper.”  If I’m remembering correctly from how it was presented at the 2013 tradeshow, the “tapa negra” style is simply the addition of a different wrapper over the rearward portion of the cigar.  Knowing that it also has “Kentucky seed, Kentucky grown tobacco that was fire cured and then barrel fermented,” I’d guess the fire-cured leaf is the applique.  The process is a way to use wrapper leaf that may have desirable flavor impact, but undesired burn characteristics.  Filler blend is Nicaraguan, and the cigars will be available only through Pappy & Co..  Two vitolas – Robusto (5.25”x52) and Toro (6”x54), which will retail for $13 and $15 respectively.  Also, the line was now referred to in the press release as Pappy van Winkle Barrel Fermented Cigars, rather than the Pappy van Winkle Family Reserve noted in the original information.

Gran Habano is expanding the Corojo #5 line…to include a 7×70 “Grandioso.”  Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper & binder; Nica // Costa Rican fillers.  $8.86 per stick.

The Chattanooga Tweetup has been scheduled for another year.  It will be on August 6-8 this year, will reportedly feature a cornhole tournament!?!  A full itinerary has yet to be published, but I understand this year’s $75 ticket also gets you a year of CRA membership.

Just as a service to the growing number of folks who are sending in pipe tobacco emails, smokingpipes.com [no affiliation] has a deal on Dunhill pipe tobacco tins until April 30th.  Buy any 4+ 50g Dunhill tins and get 25% off!

Despite the past 3 years’ record, Viaje is reverting – at least partially – to a less-than-100% “small batch” production model.  They have announced that the Exclusivo line will become regular production, available year-round.  The line will feature 3 vitolas stateside (5×52 Robusto, 6×50 Toro, and 5.25×54 Double R), with one other being available in the German market.  It is a Raices Cubanas Nicaraguan puro, featuring AGANORSA Criollo 98 wrapper.  As a sidenote, there will be another Zombie release from Viaje this year as well.  There were no further details on blend changes, etc. – but I did receive an email that one of only two accounts that will receive them will be our friend Kevin Edmiston at Winston’s Humidor in Midlothian, VA.

Cuba has been removed from the State Sponsor of Terrorism list. Obama made mention that he has contacted members of congress to support a bill to repeal the embargo. Just a friendly FYI as to the ongoing story of US/Cuba relations

unbanded 021

Unbanded #021, from DC

Welcome to Half Ashed Episode 107, featuring our 21st Unbanded, which happens to have been supplied by friend of the show Dan Crouch.  We can’t say much about it here in the notes without spoiling the show, except that it was a 6″ x 50(ish) torpedo.  You’ll have to tune in to get the full scoop and see us once again humble our palates…

News

Recent guest of the show Bodega Premium Blends will be taking over their own distribution effective April 1st.  They had announced some limited changes a while back, but will now be parting ways with House of Emilio with regard to their distribution.  From all outward appearances, it’s an amicable split; BPB just wants to have more fine-tuned control over the process and the ability to focus on select markets where their products presumably do well.

A few weeks ago, we reported the Crowned Heads would be shipping a JDH Reserve “Single Action” – a 6×38 petit lancero based off the JDH line.  It has begun arriving on retailers’ shelves.  As mentioned, it has the JDH blend – Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper over Ec. Sumatran binder and Nicaraguan fillers.  Only 2,000 boxes of 10 have been produced.

Long time listeners will remember last year when we talked about Operation: Chokepoint – a governmental program that classified some industries as “high risk” and led banking institutions to unfairly target them with the loss and/or heavy restrictions on their bank accounts.  Several tobacco retailers were impacted, as were many other organizations (namely, firearms, gambling and some lenders).  This past week, spurred on by the firearm industry, Arizona representative David Schweikert introduced a bill that would defund the program and prevent any future attempts at the same type of program.  Several co-sponsors have already signed on to the bill, but it would have a pretty long way to go to make it to law.

Rocky Patel is releasing a special 10th anniversary Edge.  It will be a singular vitola, a 6×52 barber pole.  It’s to be called the “A-10” and will retail for $7.50 per stick.  No specifics on the wrappers in use.

While there will NOT be an Avo “birthday cigar” this year, there WILL be a Limited Edition.  Fresh on the heels of the company’s rebranding (and reduction in offered lines), parent company Davidoff has teased some details of a new limited series called the Avo Improvisation Series.  It will draw its inspiration from previous Avo lines, and the 2015 LE will be Classic Covers.  The installment will be based off the original Avo blend and will use Nicaraguan, Mexican and Ecuadoran tobaccos.  It will only be available in a 6×50 toro and will retail for $16

What We’ve Been Smoking

Craig

Bolivar PC – For the first time I tasted Ginger in this cigar. It was terrific. It worked right into the suggestive flavors Kip has planted in me, with all of his “sweet and sour” talk. It really worked beautifully with the rich, deep earthy sweet core to this cigar.

Por Larranaga Panetelas – A sweet cigar but not cloyingly so. Brown sugar & cherry pie tastes are here. The tartness of cherry with the sweetness from the sugar made for a terrific “dessert”

Kip

Destino al Siglo – a CFC holdover.  Lots of sweet, charred oaken flavor.  Baking spice; typical but bold Fuente sungrown-flavor.  Very good.

Crowned Heads Angel’s Anvil – last year’s TAA exclusive from CH.  Ecuador over Nica/Nica.  7.125 x 49; rolled by EPC; limited to 1,000 boxes of 20.  I. Love. This. Cigar.  A bunch.  Bright, sweetened spice with some strength – although that could be due to the cumulative effect of its size and my desire to smoke every last leaf away.

Asylum Dragon’s Milk I enjoyed this one….mostly.  It began pretty nicely, with “creamy” (yeah, I said it) flavors; I remarked that the infusing knocked the edge off.  Still some spice on the retrohale, but overall .  The flavor from its early life in Dragon’s Milk barrel was sedate and light-handedly applied.  I dug it a lot…until the final 1/3rd.  It grew a bit bitter and a bit overly tannic.

From Christopher L.

Good evening. First off I love the show I download the podcasts and listen while driving my truck. I’ve smoked a pipe for awhile but always the same local blend never trying anything new. Which is funny because I’m always smoking new cigars. Not sure how that works. Lately I’ve tried frog Morton on the bayou and across the pond. I loved them both and was wondering if you would have any recommendations based off that.  My local shop hires idiot kids so no help there. I’ve also upgraded to a nording pipe which is also a big improvement. Hope your have a great day and forgive my spelling and grammar I’m a Montana redneck.

Kip’s (abbreviated) reply – These two blends have a very similar foundation (Latakia, Turkish, VA), with On the Bayou also including some perique.  The thing that stands out to me in the blend is the Turkish.  It gives it that indefinable – almost cola-like quality.  If that’s what you’re drawn to, you might try C&D’s Adagio – it has a good bit of Turkish as well, with a bit of nutty burley in the  mix.  Other notable C&D blends are: Orion’s Arrow and Virginia Gentleman.  There are innumerable Balkan blends out there with Turkish components; that’s where I’d keep looking for the time being.  However, you might try some of the other blends that have some Syrian latakia also.  There aren’t too awful many of them around these days, but I’d recommend MacBaren’s HH Vintage Syrian.  It’s quite different from the FM blends, but you might really enjoy that one.  Just let it dry a bit first, as MacB blends can sometimes bite.

Wrap Up

Next episode we will be featuring Herrera Esteli Norteño Coronita.  Be sure to tune in Friday night at 9:30pm EST and hang out with us in the chatroom during the show.  If you would like to contact us in the meantime, you can reach us via the “Contact Us!” tab at the side of this page, or at the following emails:[email protected] [email protected]. Please feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions you’d like answered, comments to make…or even compliments and complaints.  We love to get your emails!  Also, remember you can always go back and listen to previous episodes, which can be found in the Half Ashed Archive.  You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), find us on iTunes, or subscribe with any podcast app at our RSS Feed.  Video, as always, will be available at the Half Ashed YouTube Channel.

episode 101

*I failed to take a pic of tonight’s 6.25″x52 torpedo, so enjoy this picture of a giant stick made by my buddy Arnold!

Unbanded #020, suggested by Steve McHenry

Welcome to Episode 101, featuring our 20th Unbanded cigar, suggested by listener Steve McHenry (Thanks Steve for the submission…tune in to see how it went!).  This Unbanded was a bit of a surprise to both of us at the grand reveal.  I don’t believe either of us had any familiarity with the cigar, and I think it shows :).  Give a listen and find out what this 6.25″ x 52 beauty turned out to be!

News

In the news, we covered several items, including the following stories:

Well, I suppose it had to happen some time. Christian Eiroa put up a pic this week for an 8”x80 behemoth coming from Asylum. Madness.

The follow up to a cigar we’ve featured – the eccj from illusione – is out nationally. The eccj 20th shipped this past week. 6.25”x48 with Nicaraguan Corojo 99 wrapper over Nicaraguan Criollo 98 & 99 fillers. 15 count boxes with an MSRP of about $12/stick.

HB1590 in VA looks to increase various tobacco taxes, including an increase from 10% to 60% of wholesale on cigars! That will basically make Virginians’ $10 cigars jump to $15! It includes several other complex increases on loose tobacco and cigarettes, but I knew a healthy number of the audience calls VA home and would want to know they’d better contact the reps….**UPDATE** Virginians dodged a bullet. This bill was tabled on Wednesday, which effectively kills it….for this session. I little doubt it won’t resurface soon.

In what’s a clear pattern with Crowned Heads, they have another LE coming soon. Some time between Feb-March, they’ll be releasing a 6×38 petit lancero called the Single Action. It will be an extension of the JDH Reserve line, and only have a production run of 2000 boxes of 10. MSRP is at $9.25/stick. Brazilian Aripiraca wrapper over Ecuadoran Sumatran binder and Nicaraguan fillers.

While I’m not a huge Viaje fan in general, I do love their SuperShot series, which hasn’t been shipped since 2013. Well, it’s coming back and will be shipping to retailers this week. This time, there is no Corojo version; only the Criollo. It comes in two sizes: the 10 Gauge (3.5”x54) and 12 Gauge (3.25”x52). I’m a sucker for the shotgun shell box-packaging on this line as well as the cigar itself….

Officer Paul gave us an update on my advice for rehydrating some pipe tobacco from a couple weeks ago:

It worked. I put the tobacco in a canning jar with the cap of water  after s few days the water was almost gone but the tobacco was the same. I think I was humidifying the air. I moved the tobacco to s much smaller Tupperware container and put another cap of water inside. After 4 or 5 days the tobacco was back. Moist and holding together somewhen I squeeze it but not completely sticking together. I’ll light it up during tonight’s show to be sure.

Wrap Up

Next episode we will be featuring one of Craig’s favorites as our Cigar of the Week – 2005 Vega Robaina Farm Rolled.  Be sure to tune in next week [monitor our Twitter/FB feeds for exact time this week; I’ll be traveling and unavailable during normal recording time].  If you would like to contact us in the meantime, you can reach us via the “Contact Us!” tab at the side of this page, or at the following emails: [email protected] [email protected].

Unbanded 019 fi

Cigar of the Week: Unbanded 019

Good day, folks!  Welcome to Episode 095 of Half Ashed, featuring Unbanded #019, suggested by listener Dan Crouch.  Without giving away too much information, both Craig and I were completely fooled by this cigar.  More so than any past Unbanded.  It was a great smoke, and the reveal surprised us both profoundly.  With a solid track record in the past, I suppose it was past due for us to fall flat on our faces with one…

News

In the news, we covered several items, including:

  • The HR Habano has launched – we talked of this a couple months ago; it is the collaboration between Alejandro Robaina’s grandson Hirochi and Omar Aleman of Cubanacan.  The line comes in 4 vitolas, and features a Ec. Habano wrapper over Jalapa binder and Nicaraguan fillers.  It’s available at Cubanacan Platinum accounts (somewhere around 30 stores), and retails for $19-22 per stick….pretty steep, but the feedback has been very good that I’ve seen so far.  Still…
  • Halfwheel has a story out of San Francisco that should stand our hairs up.  The city passed legislation this week that effectively eliminates the ability to open a tobacconist.  There are currently 1,000 permitted tobacco sellers, but the new law limits permits to 45 for each of the city’s 11 districts (total 495).  While they won’t go back and cancel any existing permits, whenever a business closes it’s permit is gone if there are 45 others in that district.  The act goes on to specify that NO new permits will be issued for tobacco shops (tobacco shop = “any retailer whose principle business is selling tobacco products, tobacco paraphernalia, or both” and where 70% of gross sales receipts are derived from the sale of tobacco products or 50% of completed sales transactions includes a tobacco product or paraphernalia. “  STORY HERE
  • Skip Martin posted up a pic of a blending sample for an upcoming cigar celebrating Esteban’s 25 years in tobacco….Esteban is his right hand man in the Nicaraguan operation, managing much of the day-to-day operations.
  • AVO is freshening up a bit.  They will be rebranding the whole lineup in early 2015.  New packaging, new boxes, and the elimination of the Signature & Maduro lines (buy ‘em up if you like ‘em).  Finally, we’ll see price drops of $.10 to $2.40 per stick.  I personally have wondered what’s going on with the lineup, after seeing countless “blow-out deals” on this year’s LE, and just this week my local has the AVO Greatest Hits sampler (all the LE’s but one) on clearance for $126.95 (orig price = $194.95).  I don’t think I’ve seen any taken from the stack they initially received….
  • The Ezra Zion guys are busily working on 2015 as well.  They put up a pic of a prototype simply labeled “Unicos #2 // Mexico” this week.  I imagine it’s another San Andres wrapped cigar, but I’m still anxious to give it a whirl….PICTURE
  • Finally, we talked a bit about this year’s “Top ??” lists from various sources….some interesting things going on there.

What Have We Been Smoking?

Our extra-curricular smoking this week was fairly subdued, with only a couple entries from Craig (Padron Aniversario 1964 Principe and the Herrera Esteli Norteño) and one from me (La Tradicion Cubana Reserva Familiar).  We also gave a bit of attention to ongoing changes with the website and forum.

Listener Email

We covered one email this week, from Officer Paul…tune in to get the details on that.

Wrap Up

In the next episode we will be featuring the illusione Fume D’Amour, so be sure to check back in Friday night at 9:30pm EST on halfashed.com where you can catch us recording and participate in the new and much improved chatroom.  If you would like to contact us in the meantime, you can reach us through the contact page or at the following emails: [email protected] or [email protected].

Unbanded 018

I apologize for such a late (2 weeks) post of this episode…..which means, by the way, that you’ll be getting TWO episodes in rapid succession this week.  I’ve been pretty tied up with preparing for my upcoming move.  Here is a brief wrap-up of Episode 083, featuring Unbanded #018, generously furnished by zedman.

News

The 2015 CFC dates have been announced by Fuente…

Don Pepin has revived the El Rey do Los Habanos line to release as a shop specific cigar for The Pipe and Pint in Greensboro, NC.  Five sizes in 23-count boxes; estimated to retail between $8-11 per stick.

Nomad will be offering a lancero in their CT Fuerte line….presented as Fred Rewey’s personal cigar.  He says these were previously just rolled for him, and that he wants to share them with the rest of us…..EC Hab//EC CT//DR & Nica.

The Nebraska AG has requested the court to reconsider their decision to declare the existing exemption for cigar bars as unconstitutional.  These requests are rarely accepted, but will at least delay the formalization of the decision for several weeks.  If accepted, the case would take several more months to get through the process of review.  As a sidenote, I read there are only 11 cigar bars in the entire state of NE!!! Unbanded #016Greetings, everyone.  Welcome to another episode of Half Ashed.  This week, we’re smoking Unbanded #016, supplied by Jacob Pinkas (thank you, Jacob!).  Here are a few details from the show….

1.) We have a forum again!  We are up and fully functional….a single sign-on for the website, chat, and forum, and full Tapatalk integration.  Feel free to jump over and leave some chatter!

2.) This week’s news items included stories from Tatuaje concerning the next TWO years’ Monster releases, Viaje’s “Collaboration Series,” Torano, AJ Fernandez, Sotolongo Cigars, GAR and an interesting new program from Tobacconist University.

3.) Of course, we covered what we’ve been enjoying – or NOT enjoying – in and with the world of cigars this week.

4.) We wrapped up with a listener email from bigpete.

Next week, we will be featuring Monsdales as our Cigar of the Week, so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST on halfashed.com where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom.  If you would like to contact us in the meantime, you can reach us through the contact page or at the following emails: [email protected] or [email protected]. Please feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions you’d like answered, comments to make…or even compliments and complaints.  We love to get your emails!  Also, remember you can always go back and listen to previous episodes, which can be found in the Half Ashed Archive.  You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), or find us on iTunes to subscribe.  Video, as always, will be available at the CigFed Half Ashed Video Archive.

P.S. – If you have unbanded suggestions or contributions, you can get those to us by sending an email to [email protected].  This email address goes directly to my wife, so you can simply suggest an unbanded cigar for her to source, or send me an email to [email protected] if you have something you’d like to send in.  I will provide an address to send them.  Thanks!

Welcome back to another exciting week of Half Ashed!  Episode 071 features Unbanded #017, kindly provided by Officer Paul (Thanks, Paul!).  I forgot to snap a picture of the cigar, so you get treated to Craig in a sombrero for our featured image this week :).  We covered several important cigar news items  this week, including stories from Drew Estate, La Flor Dominicana, 7-20-4, Davidoff Nicaragua, IPCPR’s hiring of a new CEO, and the finalized review architecture for The Cigarmy.  We also covered what we’ve been smoking, and Craig’s favorite listener email in quite some time…

Next week, our Cigar of the Week will be the recently released Tatuaje Tattoo Caballeros, so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST at Cigar Federation ****We will temporarily only have chat access on our Show Page on halfashed.com.  We have outgrown our previous chat, and it has been overloading the server and causing various and sundry issues with our hosting provider.  In fact, they shut down our site this week during the show.  I have installed a stopgap chat for the time being, but it will not frame into the Cigar Federation page.  We will remedy this as soon as possible.****, where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom. Video, as always, will be available from our YouTube channel.

unbanded 015Welcome back, everyone.  I’ll be brief this week with the summary, but definitely want to publicly thank Jacob Pinkas for another fantastic Unbanded submission – so, thank you Jacob!  In the news, we discussed items from Lou Rodriguez, Aging Room/Boutique Brands, My Father, ScrewPop, and Sam Leccia.  Our big news of the night was more changes within the Drew Estate organization.  As always, we also covered what we’ve been smoking this week as well as listener emails.

Next week, our Cigar of the Week will be the Flor de González 90 Miles Torpedo, so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST at Cigar Federation ****We will temporarily only have chat access on our Show Page on halfashed.com.

UnbandedHello, everyone. Welcome to Episode 063 of Half Ashed, featuring Unbanded #014 as our Cigar of The Week. This particular cigar was supplied by long time friend of the show Maria Elena González.  Here is just a sampling of a few items covered in Episode 063:

News

Barry Stein commented on his future plans in returning to cigar media, and hinted at some future potential for the Kilo (hoowahh!).

Oliva has begun shipping the extensions to their Melanio Maduro line.

Kevin Paige of acigarsmoker.com is reporting that La Sirena is moving production from My Father & La Aurora to Erik Espinosa’s La Zona factory.

The focus of our news conversation tonight was the FDA’s “Deeming document” concerning their intentions toward regulating premium cigars.  At the heart of the matter is: 1. whether or not premium cigars will fall under the same classification as other tobacco products, and 2. the definition of a “premium” cigar.  Tune in to get the full scoop.  To summarize, for those who have any desire to continue smoking cigars, I’d strongly advise you to pay attention here.  This is the “other shoe” we’ve been waiting to drop for several years.  The time is now.  You can find an excellent summation of the document at halfwheel, and submit your comment to the powers that be HERE for the next 75 days (through July 9th, 2014.

Other

In “What We’ve Been Smoking” this week, Craig gushed about what he considers one popular manufacturer’s Magnum Opus (and no, it’s not a Fuente).  We covered a few more pedestrian smokes as well

There were a couple of embarrassing stories about myself thrown in for good measure this week….

We wrapped up with a fantastic listener email from Louis Alvarez.  He made some excellent points we were happy to discuss on the show.  Following that, we gave the final wrap on this week’s Unbanded….and I have to admit I was floored when I saw what it actually was.  Thanks again to Maria Elena González for supplying it.

Next Episode

Next week, our Cigar of the Week will be a very special Fuente stick given out at CFC2014.  We know little about it, except it’s roughly the same vitola as a Hemingway Classic, and carries their “prototype” X band and a secondary “Destino al Siglo” band.  Be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST at Cigar Federation ****We will temporarily only have chat access on our Show Page on halfashed.com.
