Good day folks, and welcome to Episode 079 of Half Ashed! Craig was unavailable to host this week, so I had former Dogwatch Cigar Radio host Dale Roush sitting in with me.  We covered news items from AJ Fernandez, the Rocky Mtn. Cigar Festival, (more!) personnel changes within the cigar industry, a Gran Habano story you need to know about, Tatuaje, and EP Carrillo.   Of course, we also talked a bit about our chosen cigars for the night and what we’ve been smoking lately…and closed out with a viewer email.

Next week, we will be featuring the Bolivar Belicoso Fino as our Cigar of the Week, so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST on halfashed.com where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom.  If you would like to contact us in the meantime, you can reach us through the contact page or at the following emails: [email protected] or [email protected]. Please feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions you’d like answered, comments to make…or even compliments and complaints.  We love to get your emails!  Also, remember you can always go back and listen to previous episodes, which can be found in the Half Ashed Archive.  You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), find us on iTunes, or subscribe with any podcast app at our RSS Feed.  Video, as always, will be available at the CigFed Half Ashed Video Archive.

P.S. – If you have unbanded suggestions or contributions, you can get those to us by sending an email to [email protected].  This email address goes directly to my wife, so you can simply suggest an unbanded cigar for her to source, or send me an email to [email protected] if you have something you’d like to send in.  I will provide an address to send them.  Thanks!

dogwatch Cigar Radio logoGood afternoon, folks.  Welcome back to another episode of Half Ashed.  This week, Kip was in Tennessee to attend a family funeral – so our buddy Bob McDuffee (of Dogwatch Cigar Radio fame) sat in with Craig.  The two of them covered a few news items, including stories from La Flor Dominicana, Cohiba, JC Newman and the FDA. They also covered a full run-down of Bob’s opinion of the state of the industry with regard to IPCPR as an organization.  You’ll definitely want to check in for that.  Of course, they talked a bit about what they’ve been smoking as well.

**It should be noted that they had a bit of a technical difficulty mid-show.  Only a couple of minutes of Bob’s fine pontification was lost, but you’ll notice it nonetheless.***

Episode 079 will feature the other respective halves of the two shows – Kip and Dale.  So, be sure and tune in for that next Friday night at 9:30pm EST on halfashed.com where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom. You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), or find us on iTunes to subscribe.  Video, as always, will be available at the CigFed Half Ashed Video Archive.

casa fernandez 35thI apologize for the terribly late post this week, everyone. I had a family funeral to attend that required some travel to Tennessee. So, we’ll have TWO episodes post this week. First up is Ep 077, featuring the Casa Fernandez 35th Aniversario. Tune in to hear Craig reneg on every negative thing he’s ever had to say about CF.

In the news, we had a couple of industry personnel shake-ups to talk over, as well as stories from My Father, The Cigarmy (pipe reviews are live!), and CAO.  As always, we also covered what we’ve been smoking, and listener email.

Next episode will feature Bob McDuffee as our special guest – he sits in with Craig for Episode 078.  So be sure to check in on the next download (as this show is now 2 weeks old at time of this post).  You can catch us live at halfashed.com and participate in the chatroom every Friday night at 9:30pm EST. You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), or find us on iTunes to subscribe.  Video, as always, will be available at the CigFed Half Ashed Video Archive.

Half Ashed Episode 076: Monsdale

Welcome to Episode 076 of Half Ashed, featuring the Monsdale as our Cigar of the Week.  I happen to be a complete neophyte with this cigar, but Craig described it beforehand thusly:

The LCDH at “Club Havana” in the Miramar region of Havana provides a house rolled cigar blended by Enrique Mons. His “monsdale” was his lonsdale vitola. A beautifully flavorful cigar when “on”, these samples are from 2006 and are over the hill in my opinion. We shall see this evening… I am primarily including them this evening because of their interplay of sweet & sour flavors that kip has commented on multiple times. They range from the sweetness of cream & sugar to the contrasting bitters of espresso, cocoa & tart fruit.

So, tune in to see our exact thoughts of it on the show.  As for the news, we covered several IPCPR related items this week, including news from Colin Ganley’s Twin Engine coffee, Drew Estate (both pipes and cigar), and General.  We also had a lengthy discussion about the state of the industry in terms of IPCPR’s position therein (which is likely to raise an eyebrow or two).  As always, we covered what we’ve been smoking, and an email or two.  We certainly appreciate you joining us, and hope you enjoy this week’s show!

Next week, we will be featuring the Casa Fernandez 35th Aniversario as our Cigar of the Week, so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST on halfashed.com where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom. You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), or find us on iTunes to subscribe.  Video, as always, will be available at the CigFed Half Ashed Video Archive.

tatuaje tattoo caballerosGood evening, folks.  Welcome back for another exciting – albeit audio-challenged episode of Half Ashed.  This week, we had some difficulty in getting Craig into the hangout, but we managed via his handy dandy iPhone (hence the peculiar sound).  Our Cigar of the Week was the Tatuaje Tattoo Caballeros, so tune in to get our thoughts on this recently released budget-friendly Tatuaje.  In the news, we covered items from Hirochi Robaina, Casa Fernandez, Toraño, RoMa Craft, and AJ Fernandez.  Of course, we also discussed what we’ve been smoking and a couple of other minor items in the course of this abbreviated show (one hour vs. our normal two).  So, you’re invited to fire up, kick back and enjoy!

Next week, we will be returning to our normal Friday night schedule.  Our Cigar of the Week will be Unbanded #016, from Jacob Pinkas, so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST at halfashed.com where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom. You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), or find us on iTunes to subscribe.  Video, as always, will be available at the CigFed Half Ashed Video Archive.

Half Ashed Episode 073: Trinidad Ingenios

half ashed logoWelcome back for another round of Half Ashed shenanigans, folks.  This week, we featured the Trinidad Ingenios as our Cigar of the Week – one of Craig’s submissions.  He described it thusly:

The commercially available Trinidad brand became available to the market in 1997 with the Fundadores and the Edicion Limitada trend began in 2000. For the first time in 2007 the two came together in this lonsdale. At 6-½”x42 it is a beautiful size to match the beautiful appearance of this unique stick. Trinidad, a decidedly sweet tasting brand, and the E.L. wrapper leaf, an almost agonizingly dark tasting priming of wrapper tobacco were combined into this stick in September of 2007. I’ve included this cigar because of what it SHOULD have been compared to what it actually is.

So join us for that, as well as news items from RoMa Craft, Crowned Heads, JC Newman, Ashton, and La Aurora.  We additionally covered a couple of legislative items, and what we’ve been smoking.

Next week, our Cigar of the Week will be the Tatuaje Tattoo Caballeros, so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST at halfashed.com where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom. You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), or find us on iTunes to subscribe.  Video, as always, will be available at the CigFed Half Ashed Video Archive.

Please forgive the brevity this week, but we had an abbreviated Episode.  Episode 072, now known as the Demi Lance show, was a bit different for us.  Craig was actually very much under the weather, but troopered on to make sure we got something recorded.  We opted to forego the typical show format and simply answer a few listener emails we needed to catch up on.  So, rather than the normal 1.5-2 hour show, we have a brief show focused strictly on answering YOUR questions.  We covered items from Bruce S., Dan C., Louis A. and Michael S. this week.  Our regularly scheduled Cigar of the Week has been reset for July 11th – the Tatuaje Tattoo Caballeros.  This week, Craig wasn’t smoking but I had something new to me in the Villiger Cabarete.  Tune in to get the full details!

Welcome back to another exciting week of Half Ashed!  Episode 071 features Unbanded #017, kindly provided by Officer Paul (Thanks, Paul!).  I forgot to snap a picture of the cigar, so you get treated to Craig in a sombrero for our featured image this week :).  We covered several important cigar news items  this week, including stories from Drew Estate, La Flor Dominicana, 7-20-4, Davidoff Nicaragua, IPCPR’s hiring of a new CEO, and the finalized review architecture for The Cigarmy.  We also covered what we’ve been smoking, and Craig’s favorite listener email in quite some time…

Half Ashed Episode 070: Elogio Excepcionales

elogio excepcionalesGood day, folks.  Welcome to Episode 070 of Half Ashed.  We have a big show this week, with a very peculiar Cigar of the Week.  It’s the Elogio Excepcionales…which has been likened to a yam in shape.  Tune in to find out what we thought of it.  We covered several news items this week, including stories from Joya de Nicaragua, CAO, CLE, My Father, and Nomad.  Also, we got into a couple of listener emails – but had to save one of the more interesting for next week, so be sure to catch next week’s show if you can.

The biggest item for me (Kip) personally was a good discussion about the big changes I’ve been implementing at The Cigarmy.  I’ve completely revamped the look and use of the site….but the big story is the new review guidelines.  We cover it on the show, but you can read for yourself on my new Review Guidelines page, which details all the current standards.  Bear with its length; it isn’t nearly so complicated as it appears on the surface.  NOTE: One change occurred after the show recording: I have converted everything from a 10-point scale to one of 100, since most folks relate to that format.  Anyway, have at it and I look forward to feedback from you!

Next week, our Cigar of the Week will be an Unbanded (#017 from Officer Paul), so be sure to check back in next Friday night at 9:30pm EST at Cigar Federation ****We will temporarily only have chat access on our Show Page on halfashed.com.  We have outgrown our previous chat, and it has been overloading the server and causing various and sundry issues with our hosting provider.  In fact, they shut down our site this week during the show.  I have installed a stopgap chat for the time being, but it will not frame into the Cigar Federation page.  We will remedy this as soon as possible.****, where you can catch us recording and participate in the chatroom. You can download this week’s audio directly below (right-click “Download” and save), or find us on iTunes to subscribe.  Video, as always, will be available from our YouTube channel.
