Half Ashed Episode 031: Casa Miranda Chapter 2

Hello folks, and welcome to Half Ashed Episode 031, featuring the Casa Miranda Chapter Two and with guest Barry Stein of Miami Cigar. Barry was slated to join us for the whole show, but we had a bit of a mixup with a Miami storm that took down the power grid in Barry’s neighborhood. He was able to join us for a short time later in the show, when he went above and beyond the call of duty by driving down to Neighborhood Humidor and calling in on his phone. We very much appreciate his doing that; it was truly a stand-up thing to do and not leave us hanging. Check out the episode to get some great insight into Miami Cigar and their upcoming lines.

We cover the Chapter Two several times throughout the show, as well as a number of other cigars from this week’s selections – notably one other Miami Cigar offering, the Nestor Mirand Special Selection Exclusivo Regional. The NMSS Exclusivo is a geographically limited edition, only to be available in the midwest and only in 2500 of each of two vitolas. We also talked Barry’s upcoming release – the KILO – which you all definitely need to be on the lookout for.

Welcome, folks! We’re back, and only slightly agitated with the unexpected loss of Episode 017 last week. Thanks for joining us. I’ll be brief with the summary this week and try to hit all the details quickly. Our Cigar of the Week is one of Craig’s offerings, the 2006 Partagas Serie du Connoisseur. We had several news items pop up this week, as we begin to enter the season of rapidfire updates in the days leading up to IPCPR. Here are a few we covered:

Eddie Ortega has been showing off the artwork for his October release in the Wild Bunch series, featuring DaByrdman (Ashley Byrd, cofounder of the B&B Cigar Club)
Quesada will be adding a 5″X43 corona to the Oktoberfest lineup this year, which excites both of us greatly. I already love the blend, especially in the Bavarian size…I can’t wait to give it a try in a corona. Production numbers appear to be only about 500 boxes of 20, and MSRP is about $7.25.
EP Carrillo is going to release a 7″X70 monster into the INCH line.
Erik Espinosa published a press release earlier this week detailing the upcoming La Bomba Warhead.
L’Atelier published a picture of the packaging for the upcoming Extension de la Racine, which will feature a similar blend to their core line but be wrapped in Sungrown Criollo.
Miami Cigar gave a few details about this year’s Casa Miranda – Chapter Two.
On a pipe tobacco note, two legendary blends will soon be in the US market after decades of being unavailable here.

The follow up to the original which was made in Miami at the famed El Titan de Bronze, will be made at My Father Cigars S.A in Esteli, Nicaragua.

According to Jason Wood; VP of Miami Cigar & Company, “Just like any great novel, our story continues to gain momentum with the release of Chapter 2 at this years’ IPCPR. I look forward to our consumer’s feedback on this medium bodied beauty!”

The tobacco used for this new chapter is a dark Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper with filler from Brazil, Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

Some of you may already be familiar with this event, as it has created quite a buzz recently as it grows nearer. I know I’m excited to be able to attend and hang out with a few friends, both new and old…and the prospect of trying a couple of new sticks makes it even better (see press release below from Barry at Miami Cigars). Twitter, Everywhere – What started last year with the inaugural Tweetup event at Burns Tobacconist (@burnstobacco99) and was put together by the hard work of David Jones (@dmjones1009) tikibaronline.com has grown into the massive event that is expected to converge on Chattanooga on August 24^th and August 25^th. To commemorate the united voice of cigar smokers on Twitter, Emilio Cigars and Miami Cigar & Co. have joined forces to release a limited edition set.

The cedar box of 2 cigars will contain a cigars made just for this historic event. The Añoranza in a box-pressed Churchill, and the debut of La Musa Melete from Emilio cigars in the same format. These sizes will be limited to 300 boxes of 2.

Gary Griffith (@emiliocigar) states, “We are delighted to be releasing this joint project with Miami Cigar and Co., dear industry friends, on behalf of Burns Tobacconist, one of the finest retailers in the country. We chose this opportunity to release this special size of the new La Musa Melete blend, and as the first appearance of the blend on the market.”

Miami Cigar releases Nestor Miranda Grand Reserve 2012

Miami Cigar & Company to Release Nestor Miranda Grand Reserve 2012

Miami, Florida – May 16, 2012 – Following in the footsteps of the Cigar Aficionado 91-rated Nestor Miranda Grand Reserve, Miami Cigar & Company is set to release the 2012 edition at IPCPR in August. The 6 1/8 x 52 box-pressed maduro cigar will be limited to 1500 boxes of 10 cigars. Rolled in Esteli, Nicaragua, this year’s edition of the Grand Reserve will have an extra kick, due to the added Nicaraguan ligero. Utilizing a dual binder this extraordinary cigar is capped of with a dark, oily Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper aimed to please today’s cigar smoker.

According to Nestor Miranda, “With the 2012 edition, we were looking to add another dimension to the Grand Reserve and what we have come up with is a cigar that is a full bodied powerhouse. I can’t wait to see the reaction of the consumers when they smoke this cigar!” The Nestor Miranda Grand Reserve 2012 will retail for $12.00 a stick, or $120.00 for a box of 10 before any local taxes.
