No, although I have no clue where it came from. I recall hearing that given as a measure of comedy when I was a child. It stuck with me, and I think it applied to both so I adapted it.

Things to add to the list:

It's not out of the ordinary to have animals walk down the street - any street. Horses, pigs, donkeys, goats, sebu (a big water buffalo looking beast of burden) might be seen wandering aimlessly on the busiest of thoroughfares.

There are lots of people with machetes here.
