On the ones that appear moldy....see if it just wipes off. If there's some superficial mold on the wrapper alone, you can just wipe it off and smoke it without issue. If it's present on the foot (and subsequently internally), you probably don't want to smoke it. Of course, foul odors and the like would be black flags as well.

In either event, if you think there's mold, you might want to segregate those cigars from your others to keep it from spreading throughout.

From what I can tell I don't see any active colonies. It looks pretty aged and really just discoloration at this point. I'm thinking the colonies died off when it got back into normal range. I'm going to study them more this weekend and see if I can find anything thats not just on the wrapper.

Hoping to get some info/advice. Here is 1 drawer of those cigars I inherited. Does anyone have any opinions on these random brands? I recognize the Montecristo, H Upmann, and Romeo Y Juileta brands however I don't recognize the bands. Are they just an older design or are these from a series they dont sell anymore? Are any of these worth saving/smoking or should I jist pitch the whole drawer. Also, on the up close picture is that plume or dried mold? The foot is clean but I've read that plume should just wipe away like dust. I appreciate any help I can get.

All of thise are legit brands. Cuesta ray is from newman/fuente. Flor de copan was an Altadis brand that never got off the ground in usa but i recall getting a 90something review in cigar journal. As for the mold/plume? Just wipe everything down good and smoke it.

As an additional aside I would put everything you had to clean off into perhaps their own tupperdor. Then (especially if the cigars were free to you) simply smoke out of said tupperdor when you don't know if your going to have time to finish a stick or really get into one. Just give the cigar one last brush off before cutting and lighting. There are far worse cigars you could be using as lawn burners, trust me I tend to smoke those cigars

Also the Tupperdor:

-Take one well sized Tupperware (gladware, whateverware) that has an excellent seal
-Depending on size throw in 1 to 2 Boveda packs (anything in the 60s). I figure about 1 Boveda per 50-75 cigars of Robusto or similar size. I am sure you could get more accurate numbers if you looked around.
-Add your cigars. As an option feel free to take any pieces of cedar from cigar boxes etc.. and throw a few in.

PS: You can recharge Boveda packs. Simply get another tupperware that is clear (a colored lid is ok), put inside a small container of distilled water and the spent Boveda pack, and leave everything alone for a couple weeks. The Boveda pack will puff back up with the water and be squishy again over time.

Thanks! I'll do that. I may never around to smoking them so that seems like a good option. There are a couple more drawers of randoms I may post to make sure I'm not missing anything really good. There are about 20 Romeo Julieta Anniversario chuch hills I'm going to rescue in 1 drawer but the rest I don't know enough or care enough to really stress about at this point.

That signed, sealed box is really cool. My local shop sells empty boxes for like $5-$10 but I've never seen anything cool enough to buy.

For those who weren't around when LouRod was active in the market, he is a doctor by trade (hence the Caduceus that adorns his packaging) who had a side hustle with cigars. I loved them. A lot. Every line he released held a special spot in my repertoire for some reason - even the CT. I miss them.

He's still around, but not in the cigar world as a producer.

As Bob McDuffee was apt to say, the quickest way to make a million in cigars is to start with two million....



As a side note, not one but two of the most fun evenings I ever had at IPCPR tradeshows were courtesy of Lou and his cohorts.
