Maybe it's like becoming one with the cigar. You lose yourself in it; everything fades away: your worries, your problems, your thoughts. They fade into the smoke, and the cigar and you are at peace. - Raul Julia

That really sucks, man.

I only hope that some day you can look back on it with all the humor that I find today. :)
Nah, I'm already there. I laughed so much during and after. It was shared much more from afar than from needing to get off my chest.

About to light this joker up, a gift from @815DC. I haven't had one in quite some time, but I always thought they were one of the more underrated cigars around. I believe this is because they (Xikar) introduced them at too high a price point and they didn't sell well - despite Xikar's presence in accessories, I think people tend to be wary of an expensive entry into the cigar space. They tried to reboot with a lower price, which led to folks looking at them with a tainted eye and wonder why the price so suddenly dropped. A prime example of misinformed or misplaced market research and a correction that backfired. They were solid AJF (if I remember correctly) sticks....let's see if they still are.

Absolutely a spot-on summary and theory. I've always thought this was the reason Padilla cigars never took off. They were good (some phenomenal!) but the market always balked. Now, Ernie was probably part of the reason people didn't take to the brand but that never stopped other companies where the head was a twat. The only one I can think of who successfully "lowered" prices on its offerings is La Palina. Other than them, has anyone else survived this?

I had planned to smoke a lot this weekend at our annual guys retreat in Indiana but there were some plumbing issues (...) at the house my cousin owns. I spent hours upon hours taking out toilets, dropping septic cleanout tabs all around and snaking drains. What a mess. I ended the charade by excavating my way into the houses crawl space and just draining down the system manually so it could be snaked through a cleanout. I resisted vomiting and have a newfound appreciation for Andy Dufresne. Needless to say, I didn't have much desire to hold anything near my mouth and nose the rest of the trip.

Planned Trip Itinerary, Day 1: Drink Rum, build floating dock with friends and swim in lake, finish night with cigar and more rum.
Day 2: Drink Rum, drink tequila, smoke cigars, swim in lake, fish, finish day with cigars.
Day 3: Drink Rum, drink a little more tequila, smoke cigars, swim in lake, fish, finish day with cigars.

Actual Trip Itinerary, Day 1: Drive 4 hours to two different Menards to pick up replacement flooring for a future project, drink rum, plunge toilet before bed.
Day 2: Build dock, half of our party arrives late and we spend twice as long doing this because we're distracted. Fall asleep to movie earlier than wanted.
Day 3: Wake up to full blown plumbing issue, still don't drink more rum, get covered in shit a few times, jump in lake to clean off and only really swim during the time when I am getting the sewage off of my body. Drink some tequila and sit around as others have cigars. sigh

That did not go as planned...
Man... I am all too familiar with that, I helped my father in law clean out the tanks and drain everything for his boat cause someone decided to flush down regular TP and let's just say that the system did not like that at all!
Also, tequila is one that you don't usually hear about getting paired with cigars.. I love it I find that it's a great medium between scotch, rum, and bourbon.

I generally find Tequila to be finicky with cigars. Anejos can be polarizing with their strong Oak (or other woods but mainly oak) flavors from the intense aging they experience. Blancos are vegetal and come across as tanic with some cigars. Reposado's can be delightful. bright, complex, sweet. They pair well with more cigars. I've recently been drinking a brand called Suavacito which actually has a small percentage of undistilled agave added in. It softens the natural sweetness and is a terrific pairing. You're in Arkansas. I believe that's one of the states it's available in. Check it out. only like $38.

I wish I could still enjoy tequila. Sadly, I am actually alergic to it now. I found that out the hard way. The last 2 times, I thought I was just severly hung over and maybe sick as well, but the reaction I endure is the same as when I am around horses/catlle.

The past weeks delights.

Camping:

Punch Punch.
One of my new favorites ! Lovin this box.

JL No.1
Great bready/citrus character in these !

H.Upmann Conni No.1 '12 (not pictured)
Very good finish. Classic Upmann.

Ezra Zion blending session Grand Toro.
It was ok. No change-up, and nothing magical, but worth the money.

RyJ Churchill '14
Yes ! They are coming around now. Cherries, tobacco, greatness !

Back at home:

Punch Punch

Alex Gonzalez Canonazo Jun '17
Not ready to smoke yet. These are still a tad bit wet.

Upmann Conni A Jun '15
These are ready too. When on, they rival the Winni, but in general, just a great stick.

Punch Punch
Yes, another one.
