Cigarro del dia - numero seis

More bad horror films (well, this wasn't bad, really, but not particularly good), trumpet, and cigars. This was going to be "to buy or not to buy" a box of Ambos Mundos Habanos, and the result is "no." I've liked these a lot in the past, but this one fell short. I'll try more down the road, but won't do a box now. The smaller one is a Blood Red Moon, which is a decent, inexpensive smoke. They come in small boxes of five, and are definitely worth keeping around.

Over the past two years I have taken that direction in what I want to smoke. A lot of it is also the simple fact of tracking them down and finding them, but truest they are fantastic smokes 99%percent of the time. I wish I had been into cigars in th early 2000s, but given the fact that it meant I would have been an 8 year old smoking cigars I don't thing it would have been a great idea.
I have had one of the RA RE Italia 2005 which was fantastic absolutely fantastic and an 898 2014 phenomenal as well.

My "start" in premium cigars was definitely non-cuban at a new shop near where I was living. That owner and I hit it off (eventually) and developed a friendship the likes of Matheau & Lemon. He turned me on to the cigars from the back area of his shop and I never looked back. I probably started off too much of a fanboy but was quick to bring objectivity into the fray.
There is a somewhat known story about my honeymoon that you can stop me if I've told here before. My wife and I were on our honeymoon in 2007 in Rome. There is a La Casa very near to the Pantheon that I intended to visit when we made our way to that area of the city. We had transportation set up at a certain time but made sure to tour one of the great monuments of Rome quickly (truly a sight to behold. Honestly). We left ourselves 20 minutes to RUN the three or four blocks separating the two areas and buy what I came to buy: Punch Superfinos and any other Punch Regional Edicion cigars. I was met with great luck and managed to find everything, and more, that I was looking for.
It was very near the end of our trip and we decided to celebrate that evening at a local rooftop bar. I brought the bag from the La Casa and intended to light one up while I viewed one of the great cities of the world. I was derailed. We spent the next few hours laughing with another honeymooning couple, perhaps shared a few more cocktails than we aught to have, and headed back to our rooms.
In the morning when I was packing up I realized that I didn't have the bag of cigars. I checked with and searched everywhere. Not only could I not find my cigars but I couldn't find anyone who had seen them. Every single last cigar that I purchased was gone.

For those who do not know, Italy does not allow tobacco products to be shipped within the country. There is no way to get cigars out unless you visit and buy them yourself, or have them brought back by someone else. The 2005 and 2007 Italian Regional Release cigars were never released again and are not a common cigar available at vintage auctions around the world. I had them in my hand and lost them all. Damn.

So there is some one out there who had a great day..
My intro was non Cuban as well, I can not remember what it was and it had no band. My then girlfriends father gave it to me on new years about 5 years ago. I remember the explosion of flavor and I just fell in love. Trying to figure out what that particular flavor is or what it reminds me of its part of the fun. Then I just jumped into the deep end on cigars

^^ Last night: had to get something notarized and ready for this morning. No notaries were open by me at this hour. Thank God my girl's cousin is notary. Drove two hours -- there and back. Miserable. This EPC was wonderful accompaniment. I think Ernie makes some bomb-ass (a good thing) big gauge cigars. Really liked this one, tho I don't know what line it's from (maybe his core line?). It had about 2 years of age on it.



^^ Today: Liga Undercrown Gran Toro. I think Stew likes these a lot. Right? I can see why. I think, where the Viva is compacted in flavor becuz of the size, the Toro is a lot more refined; it burned slower, more smoke off the foot, and the flavors shined and developed better, IMO.

My selected options for this morning's and afternoons travels. The campo cigar was pretty average, but the Cuban Punch (from Kip when in the DR) was OUTSTANDING. Really fine construction, a bit of sweetness, and really fine start to finish. Very glad that I still have another!
