So, in an effort to fully humiliate myself in 2 languages, my buddy Nick and I will begin teaching English to a group of children in Palo Alto tomorrow. My formal Spanish language training begins Tuesday - 3 hours per day, 4 days per week for 12 weeks. Can't wait to see how my tumor-addled mind responds to the stress load
On a related note, @Stewmuse will be glad to know the school supplies he bought and brought down will be going into service beginning tomorrow as well....

I'm always intrigued by this. A friend lived in Japan for a year to teach English to children. He didn't speak a word of Japanese! How do you communicate before they are semi-fluent?

We know enough to get by with small talk and chatter.

It's actually kinda handy to *have* to learn things in order to teach them.
Also, I had 4 years of French in high school/college. While quite different, the Latin basis of both languages (with Spanish and French both being Romance languages) is similar enough to muddle through most simple discussion. I can honestly *read* a great deal of Spanish. I can speak less. I can understand the Dominican speed-talk far less.

Sorry. That was a theoretical, not an actual.
