Well, another new first. Just ate sushi from a Dominican food truck. Let's see how that goes....

Alive to tell the tale??? Kinda depends on what you had. California roll with imitation crab, which is cooked, or something like tuna nigiri? A gunkan salmon eggs?
He's dead and can't tell us more.
I wonder if his first inkling of fear came when the searingly warm "raw" fish touched his tongue or when he got stomach cramps a couple hours later. The world may never know.
Don't worry. I'm sure the food truck in the 3rd world country is properly cleaned on a regular basis. Perfectly cooled. Appropriately sourced. Needfully stored overnight. And of course, in the exact same spot tomorrow to tell you exactly what it was that you ate...
Right...

Stay smokey, my friends.

Alive and well. The food truck park we were at is actually pretty clean and acceptable. Very much so, in fact. I'd not hesitate to take someone there right off the plane.
Now....today is a different story. William and I had a meeting in Moca this afternoon. On our way home, he pulls over and bought us a bag of this (below). Morcilla. It's blood pudding (or blood sausage) inside pig intestine. It was seasoned very well with a slightly picante mix, although it looked a lot like the dirt inside a nightcrawler box. Tasted good; smelled less so.
Gimme 12 hours and check back....

hmmmm the blood sausage must not have sat so well. Who would have thought that sausage would have got Kip and not the food truck sushi

It's not really sausage so much as blood. It's just blood cooked down and mixed with a bit of grain to a sausage-like consistency. Nonetheless, I survived.
Today, lunch is less adventuresome, but greatly appreciated. There are two places in this city I can go and feel almost completely American again. Except for obvious differences in staffing and language, this one is 100% Grade-A Americana. It smells and tastes *exactly* like it should. It's rare that we enjoy fast food, but when I have the chance I savor every minute....

There's a tree right outside the school in Palo Alto that makes these flowers. It's called a Carolina tree. I'm fascinated by them.
