A few shows back I commented on that spice bomb in my "what else..." segment. BTW, that was quite the understatement. I'm fairly certain Chernobyl will be the home to wildlife before my mouth is right again.
Actually, the wildlife around Chernobyl has already returned in great numbers. People, not so much...

There are some really amazing amateur videos and documentaries about that place. In fact, I believe that the TV show Top Gear visited a few years back. My memory of multiple accounts was that the evacuated area has been populated again on the outskirts by small mammals and similar, but the inner areas still are baron. 30 year old leaves still lie on the ground as if they've fallen yesterday. With no bacteria to break them down, they'll remain in that state until it returns.
Many other portions of the "Exclusion Zone" undoubtedly thrive from the absence of humans because there is certainly not an exact line where it is safe to live and than immediately becomes deadly. We're talking about two different areas. I, further towards the center, you, about the outskirts.

(yes, I understand the title is dramatic. It annoys me. The photos and topic are interesting still)

Umm... no. Not sure that Top Gear is the best choice for a scientific nature study. And the word is "barren." Much more is going on than they lead you to believe. No bacteria??? Moderator, please. Leaves would break up over 30 years simply through weathering (wind, rain, temps, etc). Even large animals are fairly abundant. For example...

Ha! who said top gear was the source, numb nuts? It was an example of a video from the public, NOT a documentary. :)

An article summarizing a study published in oecologia

http://www.livescience.com/44318-cherno ... posed.html
Here's an article from 2014 also referencing the study conducted by the Chernobyl and Fukushima Research Initiatives from the UofS.Carolina

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 9794906017
The abstract for one more studying irradiated flora & fauna. There is some reference to this in the study above but I believe they are independent and just resources.

Perhaps I am speaking too much in absolutes. Barren is not an accurate word but greatly impacted and slowed would be more accurate. If you're trying to get me to admit fault, you're absolutely correct. I still stand by my initial thoughts as an appropriate topic with a flawed summary. Can we agree?

Sure. I'm easy. Well, not really, but your point is made. I was being too critical. Peace, brother! :-)

So in summery.. Blood Red Moon perfectos... spicy, and Chernobyl- probably not a vacation destination any time soon.
Why DOES the moon follow the car?
