Tapatalk...what of it?

Post by Kip » Wed Apr 29, 2015 6:03 pm

How many here are getting real value from Tapatalk? The past couple days, it's been intermittently (but frequently) out...as a whole. Just for the record, this has nothing to do with us, our installation, or anything else we have control over. It's all on their end, with some server difficulties. After the recent debacle with them not updating their app for an update to what is arguably THE most used forum software on the planet, I'm skeptical of their dedication to keeping the app up to snuff. The phpBB update was years in the making - and was available for testing for most of a year. They had plenty of opportunity to prepare for it. I'm not a huge fan of their increasing ad placement, either (we've made $0.00 from that, BTW).

Tapatalk costs us nothing; I'm happy to have it in place. When it's working I love it. However, if it's a stumblingblock for folks to use the forum I'm open to other suggestions. I've noticed with a general lack of presence around here while we've been waiting out the "fixes," and I didn't know if this was the culprit. I know there are a few other options out there, although none seem to have the following that Tapatalk enjoys. I'm not going to make a switch arbitrarily; most of my use is on a desktop. However, we should all know that we can't have two forum apps installed. I can't leave Tapatalk and add something else. It's either/or.

I'm not making any promises, either...I'm just interested where the majority stands....

For those using Tapatalk who'd like to vote on this poll, select the little 3-dot menu in the top right of your screen and select "Web View." That will take you to the forum in your browser where you can vote.

After a bit of Google-fu, it appears this (poll usage) was a planned feature for June 2014 that never came through.....

I use tapacrap only to view on my phone, which is 70% of the time. I use it for this forum mainly, and that is only because uploading photos is easy here. I actually view other forums with the web browser on my phone mainly, but talkacrap is just way too easy to upload pics and read new posts from.
If you decide either way, I will accept your oh-so-wise decision.

I use Tapatalk exclusively, but only for this forum. ...I guess this is the only forum I'm really on...

I really like the simplicity of it, even with its goofy little idiosyncrasies.

For anyone using Tapatalk for this forum exclusively...try just using your browser. The newly updated software is fully responsive and mobile-friendly. This should always work, even if Tapatalk is screwy.

I haven't gone through the process of uploading pics this way, but will check it out tomorrow.

I won't be making a call. Like I said, I'm happy to leave it be, since I do most of my forum-ing with my laptop anyway. I just wanted to poll the regulars and see how much value is added by it.

I use tapatalk about 20% of the time. It's more foreign than the browser interface but I'm satisfied by it.
