Our old spam control plugin died. Literally....it can not validate to the developers website. When I investigated, I found that the dev's website was gone. Totally. Just gone. Not there.
So, I had to find a new one. Until I get it all ironed out and figure out the intricacies of its settings, all new users will have to be approved by me. Sorry if that's an inconveniece for the new folks. I had not planned on doing that, but in the past 24 hours I've had over 50 spam user registrations. It's a hassle to go in and delete them out....

Well, it didn't take too long to figure out I don't want to deal with a slough of registration emails for knucklehead spammers, either. Disregard that last post; I have another approach in mind......

Re: A note about new user registrations....
OK...so I have finally settled on a replacement for the previous protective plugin. It's not great, but it will do in a fix and prevent me from getting 50-75 spam users to delete (both here and the blog, thanks to the desire of keeping them synced). Let me know if anyone catches wind of someone not being able to register. I might have it just a smidge aggressive.....

Further notice about new user registrations:
The spam controls on the forum are much better than what's set up on the blog. So, all new users will have to register via the forum (which can be done FROM the blog). You might want to share that with anyone y'all invite in.

Re: A note about new user registrations....
So...we had a gentleman, let's call him "Jimmy" ('cuz that's his name). He signed up on the blog subscribe form to receive the emails whenever a new post is submitted. Then, promptly submitted an abuse report through our provider. What the heck?!?
It doesn't matter for that to happen a time or two, but with several we'll have issues. What on God's green earth motivates people to proactively go and be a peckerhead?

Re: A note about new user registrations....
Not that you did anything wrong, but is there anything attached to the description of the blog that lets people know about the likely frequency of emails? That might keep a couple of the, to use your scientific term, peckerheads at bay.

"Future posts". Double opt-in.
Double opt-in and an easy button to click to Unsubscribe in every email. Absolutely no reason to report it the way he did. None. Simply clicking the Unsubscribe button would end it for him....

I agree with Mike. He could have had a preconceived notion of what was coming, then took umbrage to what actually showed up. I don't agree with his thinking but I can see how someone would think that.
For the record Kip, A little bit of brains and he would have known what he was signing up for, one way or another. He was not justified in doing what he did (if he did it for the described reasons) but there's a metric "Buttload" of peckerheads in this world. If we only run into the two we have on this website, we're good.
