I have read the books but need to start watching the DVDs ... I have tried to avoid the conversation but let's just say every radio station DJ in KC was loosing their shite this morning over it so I have heard bits and pieces before I could change the channel.

Ooh! I am new to the whole thing. My Father in Law gave me all the episodes at the beginning of the month when my wife was out of town for a few days. I cranked through multiple seasons after the kids went to bed. Then, It's been dedicated viewing each night after everyone else is asleep. I'm caught up and watching realtime now.
I'm curious about the books though. Are they wordy to the point of being difficult to read? Are they easy reads?? I'm always looking for a new book to pick up and am currently between anything.

The books are great, they are long but not lord of the rings long. The last two were should have been one big book so they read out of order a bit but the first couple are worth checking out. You can probably find the first one in the series on kindle for $1.99 most of the time.

I'm getting old. When I read on a screen my eyes hurt. It's like my right eye can't see long distances after I've been staring at an electronic 18" from my eyes. Oh well. I enjoy the smell of old pages. I'll see if I can find one used somewhere. What are the books called? And what are they up to yet in the written story?

The books are good. Obviously more detailed. The visual representation sure is a nice bonus, once you have read the books.
I have to admit I stopped watching after season 4. Need to get back to it, they were well done.

That is a new set from Amazon - if you have a half price books near you, you can probably put together the same set for almost half.
