Books on Cigars

There are numerous book titles dealing with cigars. Some are merely "coffee table books" that have nice pictures, some are dry and informative, and some combine all of these features.

At first glance, this is a pretty thorough look at tobaco in American since colonial times. Hopefully, it will be a fast-paced read.

At first glance, this is a pretty thorough look at tobaco in American since colonial times. Hopefully, it will be a fast-paced read.

I am about 3/4 through this book, which has taken me up thru the Great Depression and into the decay of the Tampa cigar industry. This book has been quite educational, esp about the general history of south Florida, and it has not been nearly as cigar-centric as I thought it would be. Lots of history about towns developing, relations between settlers from the north and from Cuba with the established Indian tribes, and the general political atmosphere of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

One general complaint about the book is that the further into I've gotten, the worse the editing has become, causing several stops and restarts to figure out what is actually being said. Picky, I am, but it's irritating.

Outside of that, I would definitely recommend this book if you have an interest in the development of the Tampa-area cigar industry.
