Cigar DVDs

Post by Stewmuse » Sat Aug 02, 2014 2:51 pm

There are a number of fine DVDs available that show and talk about cigar brands, factories, and the culture surrounding cigars. Admittedly, some, like the CAO and Torano DVDs shown here, are primarily self serving advertisements, but even these have some very fine footage and information. I'd love to see what DVDs you all have or know about.

"The Havana" is a bit older, but has some really outstanding footage and the greatest story about JFK!

This is my favorite in terms of overall content and style. Fascinating look and cigars and culture.

Lol. I have an old Ybor city doc but that's about it. What's the fabulous Cuban Puro like?

That last video is pretty scary, considering the frequency I drop hot ash into my lap....
White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise....

Craig, that DVD is really well done, showing the entire growing, fermenting, and rolling process, footage with Alejandro Robaina, small farm workers, factory workers, cigars as part of religious ceremonies, photographs of the cities and old factory buildings, high end shops and rollers. We should sit together with it sometime. About an hour long.

I just did a video rental today on Amazon (you can also buy the DVD, but don't), of the 2011 release "Cuban Cigar Maker History A 100 years of Family History." It's really just a recorded interview done in a studio, and offers little good info.

My short review as posted on Amazon:

"This video is simply not very good. I certainly don't declare myself an expert in the field, but I've watched MANY videos on tobacco growing, cigar rolling, and cigar factories, and have rolled my own cigars for over 4 years now. The main problem is the host doing the interview. He clearly knows little at all about cigars, which leads him to ask numerous inane and/or poorly phrased questions. Mr. Serafin does a decent job in trying make to sense of what's being asked, but he also makes the occasional misstep in his replies. This video is not void of good information, but it is a poor representation of the title."

You have been warned...
