Cigar Rolling Tools

There are, really, very few actual tools used in rolling a cigar. The one that is most indispensable is the chaveta, a thin metal blade with a rounded edge. Torcedors use this tool for virtually all of the cutting of the leaf, binder, filler, or wrapper, and then will also use the flat side to help smooth the cigar when rolling. The 3 small pieces of copper pipe are used to cut various sized circles from the leaf, which are used as the final cap piece on the cigar. Some rollers will use their chaveta in lieu of this tool. The tuck cutter is used to provide a very straight cit to the cigar's end and also provides a consistent length to the cigar after cutting.

At the risk of costing myself $$$, as I've already bought one mold from him and may get another, it looks like someone may be getting out of the home rolling business... molds, tools, even a Lieberman machine!

As I mentioned in the above post, I bought a pastic mold from a guy on eBay, one that makes 7 x 52 cigars. This pic is of that mold and the first batch of cigars I rolled with it today. I really like this size, esp. with the one end tapered by the mold.

I love that size too. It's very near to the Cuban vitola referred to as the "109". That is slightly longer (1/2") and slightly narrower (50) but nearly identical with its tapered shoulder but not a pointed head. Beautiful!
