My wife has us on a "no sugar" thing for a month, so how am I gonna make an Old Fashioned?!
2 fingers bourbon
1 squeezed lime slice, then throw it in
2 strawberry tops, with the green still attached
1 dabble of water
2 or 3 ice cubes

Not perfect, but a great substitution!

I have to say, that sounds... weird.
It's like a Southern Comfort & lime but with a garnish. Ian, I can't say I'm coming with you on this one.

Haha! It was different, but very refreshing. Almost like a Pimms

Not whiskey, but here is the example of the Zaya rum changes. The bottle on the left is the "real" stuff.

Thanks for the side by side, Ian. Buy the old stuff! I don't know if it's different or not but it was so good that I wouldn't risk it if I had the opportunity.

I haven't tried the new one, but I would bet that it's different based on the buyout of Zaya and the wording on the new label. If you zoom in the new label has no age statement. None. Also, I've heard anecdotes of people saying it isn't nearly as smooth as original stuff.

That SUCKS! I just looked at the new bottle of Zaya I just bought and it's the new one. VERY sneaky advertising. The 12 is still there, but now it says 12 blended rums, not 12 year old. That is just plain deception!

To answer the whiskey question.

Scotch - The Macallen
Canadian - Crown
Bourbon - Makers, Knob, Bulliet

Damn do I love me some Bulliet!

I bought I bottle of Bookers months ago, and I think that it is probably one of the best libations I've ever had. *In my minimal years of drinking, that is.

Maybe it's like becoming one with the cigar. You lose yourself in it; everything fades away: your worries, your problems, your thoughts. They fade into the smoke, and the cigar and you are at peace. - Raul Julia

Love Knob Creek. About to try some Bulliet for comparison...

Thanks for the heads up on the Zaya. I had a bottle of the new stuff and it is definitely different. Not a bad rum but definitely a mixer, not a sipper. Had to do some searching but I found 7 bottles of the old version on the shelves. They are now safely in my possession.
