Today's lunch special: Sushi Cake! A tuna sashimi rose sits atop a layer of shrimp and avocado, and then a middle layer of salmon, between the rice layers. This all sits over some nori and shizo leaves.

Maybe it's like becoming one with the cigar. You lose yourself in it; everything fades away: your worries, your problems, your thoughts. They fade into the smoke, and the cigar and you are at peace. - Raul Julia

I'm blown away by this. Simple and achievable, yet gorgeous. Nicely done, Mike.

Re: Who needs fire?
Gracias, amigos. Craig is correct that this is simple. I used a round cake pan, liked it with plastic wrap, and then layered the seafood and avocado in from the top down, upside down. Then, it's just a matter of flipping it onto your serving plate/board. The cake itself is pretty big serving for four poeple by itself. Downside? About $30.00 of sushi, shizo, and avocado went into it. Probably would cost $60-$70 at a restaurant, though. Totally worth it!kurtdesign1 wrote:I'm blown away by this. Re: Who needs fire?
Got to my hotel early, and the person whose name the room is under has yet to arrive, so I'm chillin' in the lobby, making sushi rolls. Yes, I made the rice before I left and brought everything with me to roll. Smoked salmon, capers, and cream cheese. Package of regualr salmon ready for later. Maybe I should start bringing cigar fixins!

Re: Who needs fire?
I saw "sushi rice" on the shelf at the store this week. That's the closest I've come in the past 2 years. There are reportedly a couple decent sushi places in town, but I haven't tried my luck yet.

I like having performances and jobs that are a fairly long travel. They give me the opportunity for some calm cigar time in the car and, when planning well, time for fun "adventures" like above. Thanks!kurtdesign1 wrote:You're freaking awesome, Mike. This is just such a "you" story.
