Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Post by kurtdesign1 » Sat Dec 20, 2014 11:14 pm

I watched this documentary tonight and was captivated. I'm a food lover and often describe myself as being "passionate about passion". 82 minutes highlighting the life and work of the most famed sushi chef in the world may not seem like an entertaining film but somehow I blinked and it was nearly over. I found it to be oddly relaxing and alluring, to say the least. Check it out if you're someone who enjoys the occasional slow paced, artistic film. Especially if you are passionate about food.

This is a highly recommended movie from anyone who watches it. I have heard many people say the same, but still have yet to wstch it.

I bought it two years ago and have (I know, you're shocked, Craig) watched it a few times. There is very little in it that I don't find interesting, although the selfish, sushi-making part of me wanted more specs on how they go about it. That is often shown, but moves by pretty quickly. His lifestyle and relationships, interactions with vendors and customers, the plight of his son (the one still in "Dad's restaurant") and the kitchen hierarchy are all fascinating.

A sneak preview of the restaurant, a la Anthony Bourdain.
