I can't even imagine where you are with everything. Whats your mobility like now? Is pain managed, even in the lower leg or are you tolerating a new normal? Gosh, I have to echo Zedman's thoughts. Your mental stability is commendable. My leg infection weighs heavily on me and it's nowhere near what you're going through. Be strong, brother. We're all here for whatever is needed of us.
Yes it is very insane. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the whole thing. I’ve accepted it, but I still don’t understand it. My mobility is not good right now. My bad foot is in an external halo type thing. I can’t put any weight on my left leg. I’m limited to a walker and wheelchair. The pain hasn’t been terrible in my lower leg. It’s more of an annoyance than bad pain. But I still have prescription meds for when it does hurt. Things will be better after the amputation. I will actually get to recover and move past the accident.

I feel for you dealing with your infection. I know how hard that is. Is your leg getting better? I really appreciate your support!
Look, one thing's for sure. My leg is no where near what you're dealing with. I can walk nearly as I did before and I am in no pain when sitting or standing traditionally. My frustration comes from that near normality and then regularly "forgetting" I still need to be careful. I jump into my car or turn abruptly on my feet and I get a jolt of pain. My swelling comes and goes and I'm getting an MRI to have the abscess located for removal. I believe my surgery will be a little outpatient thing so again, no where near your situation. All I'm trying to align is the frustration that comes from a new normal when you're reminded of it. I hope (and so it seems) that you are handling it better than I am. ESPECIALLY considering that yours comes from such a significant trauma. I really do hope the best for you, for whatever that's worth.

Maybe it's like becoming one with the cigar. You lose yourself in it; everything fades away: your worries, your problems, your thoughts. They fade into the smoke, and the cigar and you are at peace. - Raul Julia

Update:

The amputation surgery went very well. I am back home now after a little over 48 hours in the hospital. I am feeling really good and the pain is minimal. It’s already so much easier to get around without my bad foot. Thank you for all of your prayers and support.

Im sure being back home alone is a boost and will continue to root for your recovery.

So when do you get green lit to have tobacco again? Asking for a friend ;)

SUCH great news!! How has your weekend gone? Are things moving forward still? Are you terrorizing all the neighborhood kids with a peg leg prosthetic and an eye patch yet? You bought a parrot, didn't you...

It’s going to be a while before I can smoke again unfortunately. I can’t wait though, DC!!

This weekend was followed by more set backs. It started with having some major stomach (digestive mostly) problems due to all of meds. That led to an ER trip very early Saturday morning. Was diagnosed with a DVT blood clot in my right leg, which is my good leg. The leg swelled to nearly twice its size and became very painful. The hospital sent me home with blood thinners. Went back Sunday night after some severe gut pain. Turns out my blood clot is much larger than they originally thought it was. I have DVTs in both legs and the clot is right up behind my lungs. Now, I do have an IVC filer installed during the original surgeries. This will keep the large clot from going somewhere it shouldn’t. So the last several days have been very challenging. I hope it gets better soon!

Thank you all for you prayers and support during my recovery! I truly appreciate it! Things have gotten much much better over the past 3 weeks. The swelling caused by the blood clot has almost gone away, and I’ve gotten some of my strength back. I am able to get up and around. And have even been out of the house a few times for leisure.

I finally had an appointment with the vein specialist Monday. Because my symptoms have subsided, they aren’t too worried about me. I will have another CT scan in two weeks to track the clot. And they are going to keep me on blood thinners for quite a while. But, so far, things are looking good.

This coming Friday I’ll get the rest of my staples out on my stump (the amputated leg). I will be able to move forward with the prosthetic preparation process after this!

I am feeling so much better mentally and physically! I’ve been able to sneak a few smokes the last few days. It was glorious! Thank you all again!

Ps. I guess I should change my name to StumpySteve now
