Visiting my Folks

Post by kurtdesign1 » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:43 pm

I'll be visiting my folks over the next week. The wife and kids wont be there the whole time but it will be good to spend some days with them when they are. I'm thinking of leaving the kids with my parents for a couple weeks. ANyone done this before? Is it just horrible for all parties after an extended stay or does it make everyone closer? Either way, I'll be missing from these parts for a bit. Have fun while I'm out!

We have. We've left them for a few days a few times, but for 2 weeks back in 2008 when we went to the UK. It went rather well; the grandparents loved the extra time and we were both refreshed after the trip and happy to be reunited. It isn't something I'd have wanted to do with any frequency, but as a rare thing it was vurry niice.
White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise....

Have fun on vacation!.. I would normally say something about how the coast is clear now to talk about you but over the years all your gray shirts are already swinging on the line airing out.

Kinda depends on your kids age and your parents mobility abilities.

That's a good point. My folks are mobile. around 70 but my dad still works full time and my mom refuses to believe shes old. Her JET black died hair says so.

I should clarify that my mom grew up in a very large home of 9. It was old school in discipline and expectations. We raise our kids (one with some minor mental illness) in a more modern sense. I'm curious how generational parenting can impact that grandparent/grandchild relationship. That's an interesting dynamic I can't quite see play out.
