Happy to be on American soil again....even if I do have to sit in an airport for 6 hours.

I was confused on which country you were referring too for half of this post.Kip wrote:This country talks a lot about progress but until they get their heads out of their backsides and figure out how to provide electricity, water, roads, or order of law nothing else can move forward. The government is perfectly capable of making any of these things happen but with all the broken systems, apathy, and brazen thieves running the show there's no way forward.
I'm not even venting for myself personally; this is totally observational. The level of sheer brokenness I see daily is staggering. The level of defeated acceptance and willingness of the people to put up with utter political BS and corruption in trade for trinkets or empty promises is so discouraging to someone who wants to see folks thrive rather than just barely survive. I'm a foreigner here and I don't have the answers, but someone *has* to understand this phenomena. I see so much occur politically that enriches the wealthy few and straight up robs the poor masses that I just can't believe it. We like to believe the US is stricken with corrupt politicians. I'd cede the point that this is true. However, the degree and brazenness with which it occurs in other places is on an entirely different ball field and order of magnitude.
I can't figure out if the culture here feeds the broken system and accepts status quo and a poorer standard of living, or if the longevity of the system feeds a lackadaisical approach to life that's given way to defeatism. Some days it is painful to watch.

Yeah for a second I thought.. Kip was in Illinois and didn't stop to say hi? Then I reread it and saw the word 'country' as opposed to State.Cabaiguan juan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2019 10:07 pmI was confused on which country you were referring too for half of this post.Kip wrote:This country talks a lot about progress but until they get their heads out of their backsides and figure out how to provide electricity, water, roads, or order of law nothing else can move forward.
