Gettin' rid of yer crap ain't so bad...

Post by Kip » Sat Jun 06, 2015 3:17 pm

There have been many jokes made (mostly by myself) about having to get rid of the overwhelming majority of my worldly possessions...and taking a financial loss on them at the same time. But, somehow, I am truly feeling liberated by the whole process.

Yes. There have been items that stung to offload (my Jeep, my beautiful antique solid walnut desk, and my grill/smoker come to mind). As much as I've enjoyed these things over the years, and know I'll never be in a position to replace them....it's still just stuff. "You can't take it with you" is a cliché, but there's a real nugget of truth there. No matter your belief about what happens on the other side of death, I think we can all agree we're leaving our crap behind.

It really feels good to loose some of the material trappings I've accumulated and possibly being a part of making someone else's world a bit better. There's just some intangible feeling of freedom that has come with getting rid of all the detritus that came about in days past. I'm digging it.

Today is a good day. Feelin' good.

This just put it all in perspective for me. What do I have that I value as much as you value(d) your jeep and smoker? Wow. That paints a dark picture right there.

I can add a couple items to that list. Today I (literally) gave away about $3,000 worth of Klipsch speakers and Yamaha stereo components, as well as about an equal value in fishing equipment. Even though it went to good folks that I'm still connected to, that was tough. Real tough.

Nonetheless, life goes on....

I'm over the hump with the sting of giving up the sound equipment and fishing gear...today was possibly the most backbreaking manual labor I've ever been a part of. It was the last final push to pack/ship/donate/take to our friends' house. Closing is at 11am tomorrow...and we're getting up at 4:30am to finish up.

Next time, I'm just straight up selling house and all contents as a single lot. This crap is for the birds...

Agree 100%
I hope the day brings a sense of accomplishment rather than frustration!
