We had a week straight of -30's C here during/after Christmas. Jan 1 it finally warmed up enough to go out on the rink. What a terrible Christmas and New Year we had. A bunch of crappy situations happened, and I did nothing but work all day and night the last 5 days.
I am just glad the weather broke, and we now get to have a normal, decent winter season.

Yea it has been between -10 and -15F for me at work. Supposed to warm up just so that it can snow. Can't wait for the heat wave!

Tomorrow morning is supposed to be the coldest recorded temp in Santiago. 12 degrees.

Of course, we use Centigrade.....so 54 F

Well, it didn't get nearly as cold as expected.....but apparently cold enough to stop the electrical grid. No power since 9pm last night. Again.

Been an awesome couple days. Water heater element went out. No problem, right? Wrong. No one in this town has the square-flange element I need. I'm out shopping for one, and now my truck won't start. No crank. No start.

Oh man.
Living in another country can be doable for the average person, albeit difficult. Having an issue in another country takes that difficulty to an entirely new level. I do not envy your position.

Well, William and Nick came and picked me up. We're looking for somebody who knows something about tracking down what is likely an electrical gremlin. I have power to everything in the truck - except actually initiating the starter. Windows, lights, etc. all work. Just no crank and no start. I thought maybe the Neutral Safety Switch is out, which is a common cause of this situation (the vehicle doesn't know it's not in gear, so no crank). If that isn't it, I imagine the ignition switch could be bad. Could be a broken contact on the starter as well, which would break the ignition circuit. I don't know. If I still lived in Florida with all the tools I once had, this would be much easier. Having the knowledge but lacking the tools is more than a little frustrating.

On the bright side, our power is back on. It was out this morning, which meant Kristi and the kids had to get ready for their first day back at school in the dark. With no hot water. That was also awesome. I also found the proper element, so I got that going for me.

@StewMuse, I'm hoping we're all sorted out before you arrive. If not, get ready for a long week of cold showers and (Dominican) public transit. You wanted an "authentic" experience, right?
