On the plus side, the government is fumigating the entire country this weekend. I'm not sure what that really even means, but it's what they said in the newspaper. Dengue is rampant this year, with record-setting numbers of both cases and deaths. Apparently, every public employee will be involved in a huge effort to spray down the entire country beginning at 9am Friday morning....

Ooh! Take your humidors outside and open them up to all that goodness! Also, it's a good thing you have no windows, or you might keep that stuff out of your house.

So, we lost water today. No biggie. It happens sometimes. But, this time, we had water pressure from the street....it was our problematic pump that was to blame. A Dominican friend of ours said he had a friend who was an electrician, so we had them stop by. The electrician suffered from what I believe was a pretty severe case of cerebral palsy - difficulty walking, talking and general lack of motor skills. Knowing the general state of electrical wiring in this country, I legitimately feared for his safety.

Turns out, though, the guy knew what he was doing. In about 5 minutes he had everything working properly and water restored. So, I'm just sitting here feeling like an ass.

Are you keeping any record, aside from the forum, of your tales of local adventures and flavor? Might make a great memoir someday...

So a dude stole a motorcycle and drove it into my kids' school parking lot yesterday. The Watchee-men (Dominican armed security) drew down on him and kept their weapons to his head until the policía came. Caused a ruckus and lockdown for the school, but a rare example of swift, "just" justice here.
