Here we go! Lets hope 2021 and onward marks a resurgence both on the site and for the Half Ashed show/faithful.

Had one of the last of my Pueblo Dominicanos over Easter Sunday. Hope all of you had a wonderful Easter!

Henry Runt on the porch.. you can definitely tell Pepin was behind this cigar. Still has some bark to it after lying down a year almost. A nice change of pace and very affordable from Holts.

On the porch with a familiar friend this weekend. Came to discover some disturbing news... John Bull may be biting the dust!

When I went to check up on the pricing for a box of Britannias at CI the line was down to 3 sizes. Corona, Churchill, and Presidente is all that is left and if you search you can find bundles of 10/20 in the Bulldog size. The cigar still sells like hotcakes and is priced within it's means at around $2 a cigar.. I don't get it?!

Well if it is the end coming old friend thanks for being there so long. I am grabbing a 10 pack of Bulldogs to squirrel away and hoping that it is just clearing space for the line to change packaging to bundles or something.

In the meantime hope all of you are well.

Been awhile and I think I like this a fair bit more, now.

Got started on Mike's Peruvian project these last couple weeks finally to heck with allergies.

This tobacco really seems to lean towards coffee and chocolate notes but switches the types. One minute it can be bitter baking chocolate and the next it can be so creamy that it reminds of hot cocoa. One moment a dark roast and the next a floral light. Of course this is between the 3 I have had.

1- pretty astringent through the retro.. but that could be me some. Notes of coffee on the finish and flavors of baking chocolate.

2- super mild this double seco version has the bones to be a great morning/anytime blend. Very light and creamy with cocoa notes that almost went towards a creamy chai. Maybe with some Nic tobacco that could happen i dunno.

3- so far the most complex. Various changing coffee notes and chocolates. Like one of those sampler boxes or valentine boxes cuz of the slight changes. I settled on the dominant flavor of this being a mocha coffee.

that's it so far! numbers 4 and 5 have me excited cuz I think they have really good potential. The tobacco seems to scream for a maduro wrapper, but that mild double seco was really nice... Also would love to see how it plays with some broadleaf or cameroon stuff.

Continued with the Peruvian project.
#4: This one opened with what may be some white pepper on the retro before settling into the coffee and chocolate profile of the tobacco.. was a more refined version on #1. Which makes sense I guess.. #5 is all thats left and I am guessing it will be Mike's idea of the final blend version. Only time will tell. Ill try to get to it soon.

These Arango cigars are all over the place where I live. I guess Arango is a big distributer in Illinois? They make matches which are excellent especially the larger sulfur free ones shown that are harder to find.

They also make a couple lines of cigars with these Vanilla Aromatic Sportsman's being what is commonly found in many sizes. They offer a natural or a maduro. Here is the Natural with Ecuador wrapper, sheet binder, and Honduran/Dominican filler I think. They are machine made in the DR (used to be made in USA). I broke down and finally got one.

Cigar was VERY mild with some sweet and at times grassy notes. The vanilla was there but very much as an accent and more pronounced in the aroma coming off the cigar. Definitely something somebody could smoke all day with how mild they are, and the aroma would deter complaints from bystanders. For what it is, it is a good example. Burned impeccably, held ash well, and tasted fine. Try one if you see them, but cut the end- those holes at the back of machine made cigars are just tar funnels. Always cut a cigar and give it some respect friends.
