Smoking multiple cigars in an evening

My cigar smoking is usually limited to at night, after the kids go to bed. Some days I want more than 1 cigar. So my question is when smoking back to back, do you try to cleanse your palette between smokes? If you do, what is your game plan and how well does it work?

I don’t often smoke 2 cigars back to back. I do sometimes smoke two bowls of tobacco back to back. I usually cleanse with some mouthwash or brush my teeth between smokes. Sometimes eating a piece of chocolate will cleanse my pallet.

Sounds like you could eat a peppermint patty and kill two birds with one stone

Just drink something cleansing, like sparkling water/club soda and/or have a snack.
I tend to have 2 cigars on a friday and/or sat night. I don't do any of that, just grab another cigar, top up what I am drinking and have a good time.

My answer is a definitive 'maybe'. If my mouth feels particularly polluted I will - although only if I'm in a situation where I'm committed to another cigar. Otherwise, I'd just skip the cigar.

For pipes? Never. However, I'd normally have the forethought to smoke lighter to fuller as the evening progresses.

These days, I have little concern for high fidelity smoking**. I don't do much reviewing, and if it's for enjoyment I just do that. If the flavor is enjoyable, why would I care if it's pure? Experiment and enjoy what happens. I think many of us fall into some false attempt at ultra superheavydutydeluxe purity, as if the world depends on how we experience the cigar. I've certainly caught myself in this mode in the past. As always, maybe I'm just getting older and more jaded. In any event, I smoke for pure hedonistic pleasure these days.

** - generally, I do try to be somewhat 'clean' around showtime. Within reason, but I don't go smoke a heavy lat pipe blend before a show cigar. I try to be somewhat impressionable for the smoke at hand.

I apologize for being so tardy to this discussion but returning from Colorado and then playing catch up at home and work has made my jaunts onto Half Ashed only partially productive these past days. Hey, that could be anothe rname for Half Ashed...

I think my palate is more pollutable than others. I can remember smoking cigars when I began and not even being able to make it through one without the process becoming acrid and unenjoyable. My biggest solution was to cleanse DURING the first cigar. It's one of the ways I developed an affinity for my Rum and Club Soda habit of late. Something effervescent seems most effective while smoking and taking regular sips on top of that. Puff, exhale, sip. Puff, exhale, sip. It becomes part of your cadence to help spread out your puffs to maintain a cigar that isn't overheated or heavily polluting.

A clean palate is from a few things. Go in clean, keep it clean, prevent what you're smoking from being unclean. Don't eat french onion soup or over easy eggs before smoking. Drink regularly and with club soda, don't touch up, puff often or totally light the cigar with it in your mouth. Do these things and you'll find you may not need to cleanse between cogars with much mor ethan some of that water you had been drinking.

A caveat. I find my smelling capabilities often diminish after I've started smoking. Taking a short break in clean air is probably helpful to "rinse" out your sinuses and help with the olfactory (sp?) functionality. I don't recommend an actual rinse or anything, just a good ol refreshing deep breath outside.

Think of smoking multiple cigars like food and beverage. Build from lighter tastes/strengths to stronger ones. Vary your beverages, too...
