It's drives me bat shit crazy every time I hear you say that a cigar wrapper is just a condiment. With a larger ring guage I may agree a little but a small ring stick I totally disagree.

Ask Cuban rollers, they have the idea that the cigar wrappers are there mainly for appearance, and not as much for flavor. I agree personally for the most part.

It is a debated topic for sure but why then does it drastically change the flavor. Take the Fuente 858. It comes in five varieties and the only change is the wrapper but they are drastically different cigars.

An absolutely perfect example. I know firsthand that those cigars have identical internal composition, but the wrapper selection makes all the difference in the world. At 47-ish, the ring is pretty middle-of-the-road these days.Kenhorne21 wrote:It is a debated topic for sure but why then does it drastically change the flavor. Take the Fuente 858. I like them in this order: Sungrown, [Rosado, although it's unavailable now], Maduro, Natural, Claro (candela). Made me drool just thinking about them.

The rosado to me was out of this world. I have only ever had two. But I love the sun grown as well.

But you are changing one whole leaf. If you changed a blend by one whole leaf, there would be a drastic difference in flavor too. Basically what I am trying to say is that the wrapper doesn't make the cigar any more different in flavor than changing any other component in a cigars filler by the same amount, ya know ?

I agree. I got a box of them when they hit the shelf, but sadly they're all gone. I believe I gave my last one to Dan Crouch. Fantastic smoke. I have noticed some inconsistency in the past 2 years' Sungrowns, though. I used to be truly, madly, deeply in love with them. Now, it's just a normal human amount of love.Kenhorne21 wrote:The rosado to me was out of this world. I have only ever had two. But I love the sun grown as well.

I have noticed the same. Have you ever had a Hemingway with the rosado wrapper?

I have. I believe I might still have one or two of those in the Signature vitola.Kenhorne21 wrote:I have noticed the same. Have you ever had a Hemingway with the rosado wrapper?
