Re: Cigar Hauls
They have a corner on a lot of the rare products. Many aren't sold anywhere else - at all. Ever. So, people can either buy there or not smoke them at all (or come down for CFC and get some as part of the trip).
The really weird thing is that their prices on standard items (available at retailers everywhere) are silly as well. I remember visiting once and the Between-the-Lines was more than double full retail. Not an everyday cigar, but not really hard to find. They were $34 apiece at a time when MSRP was $16-ish and I could buy them in Tampa for $12. If I were going to splurge, it'd be for a Don Carlos lancero or something in the Casa Fuente house line. Those are at a premium, but you can't get them elsewhere without a whole lot of work and searching to buy from someone willing to part with them (and still at a premium).

Re: Cigar Hauls
Casa Fuente has the added cache of being a cigar store in a mall where you used to be able to smoke while shopping. Men on vacation with their wives would walk through and see someone smoking a cigar and then be hit like a ton of bricks by the prospect. It was quite shocking to see someone puffing away at a churchill in the common areas of a mall. I love that place. The drinks were great, the humidor was a blast to look through and if you didn't have a heart attack at spending $15 for a corona gorda, there were enjoyable cigars to have.

I just won 1st auction on cbid. Is there anything I need to know about the condition of these cigars compared to any other auction site?

Yes. They apparently are 10x more addictive than those bought in a shop. Everyone who ventures onto the cbid site ends up overspending at some point....The Banker wrote:I just won 1st auction on cbid. Re: Cigar Hauls
In seriousness, they should be fine. Maybe a bit drier because of handling or shipping time, but a little time in proper storage will take care of that if so.

Thanks. I'll definitely throw them straight in the humi and wait a couple weeks before smoking one.

Cbid is both wonderful and awful all at the same time. I usually let my stuff sit a minimum 3 weeks, and prefer to let it lay 3 months. As for the bidding itself? Just stick to a budget and try to bid on off days when you know most of the ppl aren't getting a paycheck for a couple days. Bidding is often highly successful -savings wise- when you bid early in the month because your 'competition' has to pay the rent etc.. Also taking advantage of the family people on this one- you can score some savings around holidays like Christmas and easter cuz ppls fun money got used for gifts and travel.Kip wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 2:53 pmYes. Re: Cigar Hauls
So about 2 weeks ago I inherited about 100 sticks from about 20 different brands from what I can tell. They've been owned for around 15 years (the bands are all marked with the purchase year and month as well as price paid). I can say with certainty they were stored at 70/70 for 99% of the time but I do know of 2-3 weeks where the power has gone out in the area and it probably got up to 90 degrees in the humi. They all seem to be in good to great condition as far as the wrapper goes however some appear to possibly had some mold growth in the past. Is it worth the time to figure out what they are, inspect them all and pitch anything that looks questionable and find a place to store them or should I just pitch them all? Based on the prices written on the bands its probably close to a $1k worth of inventory.
